Julia Varley was born in 1954
in London, Great Britain. She started at Odin Teatret in 1976. Apart
from acting Julia has been active in writing, directing and organising.
Her articles has been published in journals such as Mime Journal,
New Theatre Quarterly, Teatro e Storia, Conjunto, Lapis and Mascara.
She has directed two performances for Theater in Pumpenhaus (Germany
- 1992) and Semillas de Memoria with Ana Woolf (Argentina - 1999).
Since l980 she takes part in the conception and organisation of ISTA
- International School of Theatre Anthropology. Julia is a member
of the Magdalena Project since its beginning in 1986. She is responsible
for Transit Festival, an International Theatre Festival and Meeting.

Julia is editor of The Open Page,
a journal devoted to women’s work in theatre. Julia has also written
Wind in the West (Italian translation - Vento ad ovest, Spanish
translation - Viento al oeste), a novel about a theatre character,
Doña Musica, who narrates the wanderings in the labyrinth
which ends with "Kaosmos", a production of Odin Teatret.
